Similarities Between Evangelion and RahXephon

On this website, I have attempted to compile a complete list of every similarity between Neon Genesis Evangelion and RahXephon. I have done so using a side-by-side comparison of screenshots from Eva and Rah. Because the gallery of screenshots is enormous in size (over 160 similarities, over 400 images) I have split it into multiple pages.

If you want to know why I made this site, please visit the 'About EvaXephon' section to learn my intentions.

Frequently Received Criticism

(Please read this section first before viewing any of the galleries. My responses to criticism that I have frequently received will give you a good idea of the right way to browse the galleries, and explain a lot of things that you may misunderstand about the galleries.)

All Is Well In The World

A frequently mentioned similarity, but one I am obligated to mention nonetheless. The first line spoken by RahXephon's protagonist, Ayato Kamina, is almost identical to the slogan on NERV's logo. Why would the creators of RahXephon have their main character's first line be NERV's slogan? I cannot think of any valid reason other than that they were paying an homage to the series that they were about to draw so heavily from.

Ayato says, "All is well in the world." Keel says, "All is right with the world."

Eerie Painting

Ayato's painting looks eerily similar to the scene at the end of End of Evangelion. Ayato's painting features a girl with long red hair in a flowing yellow dress standing in what looks like a post-apocalyptic world where giant crosses and the color red are prominent. In fact, even the way that the red crosses are tilted closely resembles the way that the Eva Series Units are leaning.

Bloody Hands

In both series, the main character gets blood on his hand in the first episode and looks at it.

A note - In RahXephon, Ayato gets red blood on his hands, and later blue blood. In Evangelion, Shinji only gets red blood on his hands, but the color blue is also featured prominently in the camera shot, thanks to Rei's hair. Perhaps the creators of RahXephon obtained the 'blue blood' idea from seeing the color of Rei's hair along with Shinji's bloody hand.

Recreated Scenes

Ayato's experiences in the first episode are taken directly from Evangelion, scene-for-scene.

Abandoned City

At the start of both series, the main character wanders through a seemingly abandoned city, wondering where everyone is. Also, in both shows, the city is seemingly abandoned for the same reason - invaders.

Fighter Planes And Missiles

The next thing to happen is that fighter planes and missiles fly in close proximity to the main character.

A Military Vehicle Explodes

Directly afterwards, a large military vehicle nearby the main character explodes.

Knocked To The Ground

Last, the main character is knocked to the ground, where he assumes a defensive stance.

Close-Up On Eye, Heartbeat Sound Effect, Long Scream

In both Evangelion and RahXephon, the camera zooms in on the main character's eye while a heartbeat sound effect plays, and then the main character lets out a long, bloodcurdling scream.

Girl In Long Yellow Dress

Both RahXephon and Evangelion contain a female character who wears a long, yellow dress. Additionally, the first time we see these characters, their face is out of view for a few camera shots.

The Dolems And The Angels

The Dolems from RahXephon and the Angels from Evangelion both have several similarities. RahXephon's Dolems and NGE's Angels are both colossal other-worldly creatures that appear and attack seemingly from nowhere. The Dolem 'Allegretto' has a very angelic look, complete with angel wings and a halo. There are many other similarities, but they will be covered on other pages.

Several of RahXephon's enemies have a very angelic shape or look. Evangelion's enemies are code-named the 'Angels'.
